Bald Mountain Recreation Area, Lake Orion MI
At 4,600 acres Bald Mountain rec area has 15 miles of mountain biking trails in two areas called the North and South units. These units are shared with bikers and skiers, the north unit has four different trails with a total length of 8 Miles designated by different colors while the South unit has about 7 miles and five trails designated by different colors
The trails are moderately hilly.

Bass River Recreation Area, Lamont, MI
Best River has two trails that are available to mountain biking the one is a 5.0 multi use that goes through largely woods and the other is a 6.0 mi multi-use Trail that is shared with hikers and equestrians. part of the trail goes along the water. The trails are easy to moderate in difficulty.

The Dragon’s Tail at Hardy Dam, Stanwood, Michigan
Literally just completed last month the Dragon’s Tail, or The Dragon as it’s being referred to, is a massive 45 miles of trails divided into 11 segments. The  trails go around Hardy Pond.  This trail system is so new we have not been there but it really sounds interesting.  Here are some sites that can help you with your trip.

Black Lake State Forest, Cheboygan County, MI
Located in the state Forest is the Black Mountain Pathway consisting of 30 miles of trail loops and is accessible from five different trailheads and all are multi use with some views of Black Lake. The trails are moderate to challenging. Bikers note, make sure you’re able to do a tire puncture repair as these trails are long and not close to a lot of roads.

Betsy River Pathway, Thompsonville Michigan
The Betsie Pathway Trail consists of almost 10mi of varied terrain mostly along the river in two loops of 6.6 and 2.8 mi. the shorter loop is more challenging uphill climbing.
 
 
Big Bear Lake Pathway, Lewiston Michigan
Located within the Big Bear Lake State Forest Campground area the trails consist of two and a half miles of single track pathway through pine woods and marshy areas and runs along the north side of Big Bear Lake. Bear lake Rd. crosses the trail at several points. An easy to moderate ride.

Cedar River Pathway, Menomonie Michigan
Cedar River Pathway consists of four interconnected loops that run through marshy and pinewoods terrain. You might want to avoid this area if it’s been raining very much.

Blind Sucker Pathway, Newberry MI
Located right between Lake Superior and Muskellunge Lake State Park this trail goes through some very sandy areas with some challenging uphill’s through pine forest.  Moderate to challenging effort trails. The plus code is M69W+5M Newberry, Michigan

Cedar River Pathway, Menominee Co. MI.
Located in Daggett township, Cedar River has four interconnected loops ranging from 1 to 9 mi in length. Most of the trails go through marshland or along the Cedar River with some forest areas. The trails are shared with hikers and horseback riders. Easy to moderate riding.

Cheboygan State Park, Cheboygan Michigan
Cheboygan State Park has over 1,200 acres and numerous activities for families. The park has five different trails for mountain bikers ranging from 0.7 of a mi. to 1.75 mi. that are shared with hikers. Most of the trails have views of Lake Huron. Mostly sandy but moderate effort trails. Cheboygan State Park is quite popular in the summer so plan accordingly.

Fort Custer State Recreation Area, Augusta Michigan
Fort Custer has over 3,000 acres and four trails that are open to mountain biking. The trails range from 5 to almost 9 miles, and go through reclaimed farmland and forest that was once part of a WW II training center. Mostly moderate, semi hilly trails.
 
 
Guernsey Lake State Forest, Kalkaska, MI
On the north side of Guernsey Lake contains the Sand Lakes Quiet Area Pathway which has approximately 8 miles of loop trails running through hardwood and conifer forests semi hilly, moderate effort trails.

Big Mud Lake Trail, Clare Michigan
The Big Mud Lake Trail is part of the Green Pine Lake Pathway and consists of 13 miles of moderate rated trails through flat marshland and large sections of woods around three Lakes in the area. Be conscious of where you are as trails aren’t very well marked

Highland Recreation Area, White Lake Michigan
With over 16 miles of moderate to very challenging trails this place is a virtual mountain biking heaven with four different loops that you can ride in whatever combination you feel you can handle

Pinckney Recreation Area, Pinckney Michigan
Pinckney Recreation Area is considered one of the premier mountain biking areas in the Midwest with bikers coming from out of state to explore the trails that range from 2 to over 13 miles with difficulties ranging from moderately easy to very challenging. The one downside to the parks popularity is it can be busy on the weekends.
 
 
Holly-Holdridge MTB Trail Network,  Holly MI
Located in Holly Recreation Area is the Holly-Holbridge Trail Network which has over 25 miles of loops ranging from beginner to very challenging. If you’re an experienced rider, try the East loop at 15 and a half miles.
